Shell Scripting Workshop — Self Reflection
This post is to share my learnings from the 2-day workshop organized by LinuxWorld Informatics Pvt. Ltd. on “Shell Scripting” taken by Mr. Vimal Daga on 24th and 25th April,2021.
In this workshop I learned following things:-
✔ Basics of bash.
✔ How to pass arguments to a script file.
✔ Loops in shell scripting: for and while
✔ awk command :- used for data pre-processing
✔ How to do comparison b/w numbers since <,> etc. have special meaning in shell , thus we use -eq, -lt, -gt , -le and more.
✔ read — cmd to take input from user using keyboard.
✔ cut — cmd used to get fields of a file
✔ tr — cmd to translate
✔ sed — stream editor. Used to find and replace pattern.
✔ Options available for awk command and their purpose:
NF: store the number of fields
NR: store the number of records
END: print the last line
BEGIN: tells that code starts from here
✔ switch-case in shell scripting.
✔ Functions in shell scripting.
